Red Flags in Concussion

Red Flags: Recognising Signs of Concern

At Advanced Vestibular Clinics, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our patients following concussion injuries is paramount. Recognising red flags is crucial for appropriate care and management after a head injury. Here are a few critical red flags to watch out for:

  • Neck Pain or Tenderness
  • Double Vision
  • Weakness or Tingling/Burning in arms or legs
  • Severe or Increasing Headache
  • Seizure or Convulsions
  • Deteriorating Conscious State
  • Vomiting
  • Increasingly Restless, Agitated or Combative

These signs may suggest potentially serious conditions such as brain swelling, brainstem or spinal canal swelling, brain damage, ligament damage in the upper neck, or cervical fractures.

Immediate medical assistance should be sought if any of these symptoms occur
